Matt LeckmanIn 2011, Matt shared with his colleagues in a landmark victory, serving as co-lead counsel in the trial of Mulderig, et al. v. Wyeth, where the plaintiffs claimed they developed breast cancer from their use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) drugs. The trial resulted in a jury verdict for the plaintiffs totaling $72.6 million, which was the largest personal injury verdict in Philadelphia in 2011 and one of the highest in the history of the court. Matt was also instrumental in assisting at trial in the 2009 HRT case of Kendall v. Wyeth, which resulted in a plaintiff's verdict of $34.3 million. After the trial court drastically reduced the award, Matt was responsible for the briefing that won the appeal and overturned the trial court, reinstating the full award. Matt has devoted his practice to complex mass torts cases. He has handled all phases of litigation, including case evaluation, discovery, trial, settlement, and appeals. Matt has been instrumental in the litigation and resolution of hundreds of personal injury claims arising from pharmaceutical drugs and medical devices, including antidepressants (Paxil, Celexa, Lexapro, and Cymbalta), HRT drugs (Prempro, Premarin, and Progestin), defibrillator leads (Sprint-Fidelis), and dialysis products (GranuFlo and NaturaLyte). He has also represented clients in a variety of mass tort injury cases that are still pending, including lawsuits over Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filters (Bard and Cook), blood thinners (Xarelto), surgical patient warming blankets (Bair Hugger), and talcum powder. Since 2014, Matt's main focus has been representing men who claim heart attack and clotting injuries from the use of testosterone replacement therapies (TRTs). From the outset of the litigation, he has served on the Plaintiff's Steering Committee for In re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Products Liability Litigation, a mass tort consolidation pending in federal court in Chicago. In his capacity as a member of the TRT leadership committee, he has been heavily active in global discovery, corporate depositions, and the pretrial and trial of bellwether cases. Over his career, Matt's litigation and trial work have assisted in recovering jury verdicts and settlement awards totaling over $100 million. Matt was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and he and his family make their home in suburban Philadelphia. Matt has been privileged to serve as a speaker and lecturer for the American Association of Justice and the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association. Matt has also served as both an Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy and mock trial coach at the Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law.
