Defective Drug - Zicam

ZICAM, manufactured by Matrixx Initiatives, Inc., and Cold-Eeze, manufactured by the Quigley Corporation, are homeopathic nasal medications that are claimed to shorten the duration and minimize the symptoms associated with the common cold. Zicam may be applied to the nasal cavities either with a spray or swab and Cold-Eeze is a nasal spray. Both of these medications contain the active ingredient Zinc Gluconate, the use of which in the nose spray has been linked to possible side effects including loss of the senses of taste and smell. Loss of smell is known as anosmia and both conditions may be permanent.
